This time of year there’s a lot of content that tries to pull your heartstrings. Leaving out the separate question of “why at this time of year?”, it’s worth asking “why are the good ones effective at moving us emotionally?”Here is an ad that works quite well. I think there are at least several reasons why:1. We’ve all lost someone or something that we feel like we can never get back. By showing that there are still ways to connect to it (through our kids/grandkids) we are given hope to get up in the morning.2. Health is easy to separate from the rest of our lives. But we all know that staying healthy is hard AMD worth it. The payoff here is human connection - which is the real goal of most workout plans.3. The power of perseverance- even when people scoff at you, even when you’re not feeling “inspired” by it, even when you’re exhausted… we all know that we should still “just do it”. And IF WE DO - there’s something good at the end of the rainbow.4. Family. This story is all about multi-generational love. And in an era of profound loneliness and disconnection, it feels good to be reminded that our families are (at least intended to be) a source of great power.I’m sure there are more reasons why this ad worked. Any thoughts are graciously appreciated.
