Just terrible. The #remote vs #rto argument has no clear answer, no matter what anyone says. Different people thrive in different environments. This, however, is a perfect example of #returntowork done completely wrong. Most HR executives and hiring managers I talk to are focused on people experience and understand fundamentally that their people are the bloodline of their organization. But in large enough companies, with far enough removed leadership, sometimes that insight is missing, and decisions are made with only raw #productivity in mind.Offering a move to remote, letting your employees make the necessary accommodations, and then rescinding that decision is the epitome of leading from the head and not the heart.#worklifebalance #farmers #remotework #jobmarket

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I imagine they are going to lose a lot of employees.

Positions at insurance companies have some unique characteristics that make them best suited for in-person in office staff. This is not an environment that is always conducive to remote work, and I have that from numerous sources within numerous ins. companies across numerous departments. Claims , in particular, have the need for new adjusters to learn complicated policies and terminology, collaborate with and get to know their teammates(not thru a screen with someone 2000 miles away who you'll never see outside of work), have lengthy conversations at times, be available instantly to help a teammate, etc. Understanding the need for WFH and flexibility in order to attract and keep the best people, some of these roles are difficult to perform 100% remote and I actually completely understand his decision to make this announcement. I would to. Just my two cents and 32 years in the industry opinion 😀

Good luck to this CEO and his poor Talent Acquisition team who will likely be working non-stop to replace a ton of people. We have already begun reaching out to candidates there. If you work at Farmers Insurance and want to keep working remotely, AQ and hundreds of other recruiters have open roles that offer flexible work. Look for the hashtags below and take those calls from recruiters that call you. Some of these companies will even relocate you.To our recruiter friends around the country... if you have remote job opportunities in the financial services industry, feel free to post your job or add your name in the comments.#remotejobs #hiring #hybridjobs #remote

Working from home isn't just about working from home. It's mitigation of Climate impacts. It's reduction of wear and tear on cars, trucks, buses, roads, and bridges. It's avoidance of high-risk health situations, like having to go outside when the air is dangerously thick with smoke. And on and on.There's always more to the story.#workingfromhome #remoteworking #climatechange #transporation #infrastructure #health #mentalhealth #riskmanagement #projectmanagement #leadership https://lnkd.in/dajVd-Nc

Two interesting bits in here I hadn't thought/heard about with the impacts of work from home: Public transit being bailed out by subsidies (and the impact when those dry up for the cities), and potential "fertility dividends" from hybrid working parents finding parenting easier...#hybridwork #hybridworking #occupiers #workplace https://lnkd.in/gMmP-qD9

There seems to be a tussle going on between employers and employees…Almost every other post here on Linedin is one saying remote working is best and better Followed by The next post telling everyone they should be going back to the office I’ve just heard on the radio that unauthorised school absences are reported to have increased by 25 per cent compared with before the pandemic, and have been found to be 20 per cent higher on Fridays than Wednesdays. And they are blaming working from home and potentially cheeky long weekends away. So what’s your thoughts? Which camp are you in?

I can empathize with the thousands of employees who were told one thing and then had that strategy reversed. Company policies rooted in what benefits the Company only fail. Sure, some people will comply in the near term for fear of losing their job. But longer term, why would employees have any respect for leaders who pull the rug out from under them? Why would they give you their ideas, discretionary effort and collaborative spirit? It’s one thing to come out of the gate establishing your operating model (all in office, hybrid or fully remote) and letting people self select into that model. But again, changing that with very little notice (and yes three months to move, buy and or sell a house, find new schools for your kids, source elder care, pet care, childcare, etc. is not a lot of time) is unfair, disadvantages marginalized populations further, and is just bad for business.

“Workers in unexpected jobs are clocking more time from home than before the pandemic hit.It isn’t just white-collar workers logging in from bedrooms instead of boardrooms. Lower-income, less-educated and service-industry workers spent more time working from home, on average, last year than before the pandemic struck. The broad-based gains suggest that while much of American life has reverted to prepandemic norms, remote work persists and is subtly reshaping many professions…”#remotejobs #organizationalculture #useconomy https://lnkd.in/gv7aaAAw
