A police officer has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on a busy road in Tameside.
Dukinfield Road in Hyde is currently shut off in both directions following the collision. It is closed between Broadway and Junction Street.
Pictures from the scene show a badly-damaged police car on the street. Debris can be seen strewn across the road from the crash, with a tent in place and a large cordon.

Greater Manchester Police said the officer was pursuing a vehicle at the time of the crash. They said: "An officer is in hospital with serious, but thankfully not life threatening injuries, after a collision on Dukinfield Road, Hyde today. He was pursuing a vehicle who had previously failed to stop at a collision and was on cloned plates. The road remains closed."

'It must have been 80 miles per hour'

'There was this massive bang'
Neighbours have reacted to the crash that happened on Dukinfield Road today. One said they heard a 'massive bang' and saw a large number of emergency services.
A neighbour said: “there was this massive bang, I think it went into a lamppost. There was two fire engines, an air ambulance, a police helicopter and loads of police” @MENnewsdesk

Here's a picture taken shortly after the crash which shows the badly damaged police car. The car is now thought to be surrounded by an evidence tent.

No-one else was injured in crash
Police say no-one else was injured in the smash and the search for the car that was being chased is ongoing.
A GMP spokesperson added:
We appreciate all of the concern on social media for the officer, and we are very pleased to confirm he hasn't died. The search for the original vehicle we were pursuing is continuing. No-one else was injured in the collision.

In a statement GMP said:
An officer is in hospital with serious, but thankfully not life threatening injuries, after a collision on Dukinfield Road, Hyde today.
He was pursuing a vehicle who had previously failed to stop at a collision and was on cloned plates. The road remains closed.

Crash involved three vehicles
It's understood the crash took place around 12.45pm and involved three vehicles.
Two fire engines from Offerton and Hyde fire stations and the technical response unit from Ashton were called and were on the scene for around an hour.
