An opportunity for an enthusiastic colleague to join both the Respiratory Medicine & Acute Medicine team as a Speciality Doctor with a view to gain skills & competencies towards a CESR & potentially in due course join the Respiratory Consultant team.

The Respiratory department successfully supported a CESR colleague who will join the consultant team shortly. We welcome applicants to apply & contact us to discuss this exciting post.

  • Outpatient clinics including sub-speciality: Allergy, Specialist Asthma, Bronchiectasis, COPD, Lung Cancer, Pleural, ILD, Sleep, TB, Domiciliary Ventilation & EMPOWER primary care MDT working.
  • Bronchscopy, EBUS, Medical Thoracosopy with opportunity to develop Cryobiopsy service.
  • MDT working with specialist nurses, Early Supportive Discharge team, Physician Associate practical procedure support, Specialist Physiotherapy practitioners.
  • Respiratory Physiology & Sleep team, Lung Function testing, Polysmnography, CPET, Physiologist lead sleep service & dyspnoea clinics.
  • Specialist Respiratory ward with NIV area, procedure room & ward based Specialist Respiratory nurse team.
  • Research links with opportunities to be an Associate PI & PI national & regional trials.
  • Opportunities to develop interest in Medical Education with University of Worcester medical School.

The post is intended to be full time, but applications would be considered to work part time.

The starting point in the incremental scale will be negotiable depending on experience.

Advert

1. Inpatients – Care of Respiratory patients and providing advice to inpatients in other areas with support of the Respiratory ward consultant, and alongside Respiratory speciality trainees.

2. Outpatients – Deliver general respiratory clinics and have the opportunity to develop sub-specialist interest with the support of consultants. Particular support will be given to developing expertise in a variety of sub-specialities to meet CESR requirements.

3. The successful candidate will be supported to develop procedural skills in pleural procedures, including medical Thoracoscopy & bronchoscopy.

4. Maintaining a portfolio and logbook of procedures. The applicant will be supported towards achieving accreditation in thoracic ultrasound.

5. Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings and attend tertiary centre specialist sub-specialty training to meet Respiratory curriculum requirements.

6. The successful candidate will be supported, if desired, to develop a portfolio towards the CESR route to specialist registration in Respiratory Medicine

7. Participation in Mortality & Morbidity and Education and Audit meetings and case reviews.

The post holder will be supervised / mentored by the consultant team. They will participate in annual appraisal and will be provided with support and guidance for revalidation.

Secretarial support for out-patient activity will be provided. The post holder will have access to an office fully equipped with IT.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

2. Outpatients – The successful candidate will deliver general respiratory and have the opportunity to develop sub-specialist interest with the support of consultants. Particular support will be given to developing expertise in a variety of subspecialties to meet CESR requirements. Templates for clinics 3 new and 4 follow up patients.

3. The successful candidate will be supported to develop procedural skills in pleural procedures, including medical Thoracoscopy and bronchoscopy.

4. Maintaining a portfolio and logbook of procedures. The applicant will be supported towards achieving accreditation in thoracic ultrasound.

5. Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings and attend tertiary centre specialist sub-specialty training to meet Respiratory curriculum requirements.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Essential criteria
  • GMC/ MRCP (UK)
Desirable criteria
  • Good grounding in Respiratory Medicine

Knowledge Base, Skills & Experience

  • Current ALS certificate or equivalent

  • Audit & teaching experience relative to career stage

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Equivalent to completion of Internal Medicine Training Stage 1
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Respiratory Medicine

Teaching Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must have an interest in teaching all grades of medical staff & other allied health professionals
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification / accreditation

Personal Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to relate to patients & colleagues
  • To be flexible in approach to rotas, etc
  • Ability to travel between hospitals
  • Basic IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Progress towards achievement of the European Computer Driving License

Registration

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with the GMC

Language Skills

Essential criteria
  • Applicants who's primary professional qualification(s) were not taken in English & who have spent less than 6 months in a substantive NHS post, will need to provide evidence to demonstrate their language competence by showing that they have achieved a score in a recognised language test which is acceptable to the Trust such as the International English Language Testing system (IELTS) or equivalent
